produce galore!

we joined a new community supported farm this year. we've done csa's with 3 different farms in town and have been happy with all of them. but this one, by far, has been the biggest shares we've ever gotten!

city roots knows where it's at, y'all! check this out!

turnips, beets with greens, carrots, 2 types of lettuce, kale, yellow squash, and sprouts.

and we get a share this size every week! so exciting.

heebie jeebies

i killed a black widow spider in our shed tonight.

...

shivers.

family weekend2

last weekend we met up with a bunch of the waldie clan for a wacky waldie wedding weekend. my cousin, alex, whom i'd not seen since my own wedding 8 years ago, was getting married in north carolina. it's not usual for that side of the family to get together, so we took advantage of the opportunity. and, man, we had a great time! we danced like crazy and laughed uproariously. i definitely vote that we do that more often!

we used cocktail hour to practice our dance moves! some of us couldn't WAIT to get on the dance floor.

don't we dress up nice?

we all wore black when everyone else was wearing flowers and bright colors. guess we didn't get the memo...
all the northerners all wore black

the next morning we were fortunate to be able to meet up with everyone for brunch.

apparently the night before was a little wild because the groom lost his shoes and my niece woke up with tattooed legs.

is 9 years old too young to have tattooed legs?

up for grabs

would anyone be interested in making homemade soap? i have equipment that i want to get rid of. since i make my soaps out of lye the equipment should be used cautiously and i'm afraid that if i donate the items people will use it for food, which would not be recommended.

if you're interested, post a comment below or send me an email and we can discuss.

some kids never grow up

family weekend1

may has been a month full of family visits. the first weekend in may my sister and my stepdad came to stay. this past weekend the hubby and i were in north carolina for a cousin's wedding and in a few weeks we'll go to chicago to visit the hubby's sister.

so here are some shots from the first of those family visits:

is this the life or what!?
hanging out in the back yard and soaking up the sun.

strawberry picking at cottle farms
taking advantage of the seasonal produce.

walking back after finished picking

sitting on a bench near the battery
taking a rest on our visit to charleston

rough guys
charleston hasn't ridden itself of riff-raff. you gotta watch out for guys like these on the streets in town.

Rosewood Dairy Bar!
what visit to town would be complete without a little rosewood diary bar (sorry, mom!)

rachel's homemade bday cake
my sister celebrated her 22nd birthday, so we threw her a little party on their last night in town

all of the pictures that i took can be seen at my flickr page.

thanks for coming down, guys! we had a great time and enjoyed having you!

i just finished grading the finals and submitted my grades into the system. i'm no longer a professor, which is sad. but i'm super happy to be finished with all the work and can have my time as my own again. woot woot!
